The SKIF-SOK-CO2/TOLUENE automated core cleaning system for removing formation fluids is designed to clean the pore space of core samples with diameters from 30 to 110 mm from formation fluids and technological liquids using pressurized toluene with dissolved carbon dioxide in an automated mode controlled by specialized software. When the pressure in the saturation chamber decreases, the carbon dioxide is released from the toluene and, expanding, displaces the contaminated solvent from the pore space of the samples. Extraction efficiency is achieved by repeatedly cycling through “saturation-degassing” until the solvent stops changing color. Extraction can be performed for both full-size core fragments and core samples of various sizes and shapes.
